I just read it....thanks. I hope it helps...seems to be a little skepticism but I think that will go away once people realize that this is not a replacement for MV

I'm surprised you didn't post it on there when you first created it. Wished the people on MV were a bit more open about 'another' forum....social network is different than a discussion forum.. But glad to see we got a few new members!

Hey I joined. I like social. This time I actually loaded a picture of me and the kids - not the bike though I love it dearly. But alas I will have to park it for a few days as I am having knee surgery next Wednesday. They are working on my meniscus (ok my spelling of this is probably wrong) so I cannot take a chance of screwing it by putting my leg down too hard. So I will just go to the garage and shine it up. But hey my husband is going to be taking care of me for a few days and that is worth a bunch!!!!!

Welcome Dale and good luck with the knee surgery! Enjoy the 'mothering' you'll get.

I don't see why you shouldn't of been able to put a thread in there..I mean Mv is about furthering the love of Vespa/Piaggio scooters..and this forum is part of that too. I'm pretty slow so I don't know how long it took me before it finally clicked in my head to try the link that was in your sig file...alot of people ignore sig files.. i'm happy I finally paid attention to yours!

I am glad you did too ;) I agree with what you said about furthering the love. I am trying to figure out a way to put a link to MV on the main page so people that find this site first can also find MV.

Hope you heal up fast and get back to riding. I have been driving the truck for the past week because I have a cold and if I am not 100% I don't ride...besides, having a coughing fit in a full face at 60 mph is no fun ;) Anyway, I feel like it has been a month! Gonna go for a ride tomorrow....can't wait!

Hope everything goes well with your surgery!

Well let me say that in any forum where folks can hide behind emails they tend to have very strong opinions. I love the MV forum and this in no way replaces MV nor, I am sure, is it meant to. But some folks feel that forcing vs. voicing their opinion is the only way to go. I have had that happen on MV a couple of times. Generally I keep my "unapproved" activities to myself. I feel that as an educated adult I can make my own decisions about things. I do research and ask questions then make a decision.

My surgery is tomorrow and I am wondering how I will get through not being able to ride. I am also wondering how riding ever got so important. But the fact is that I do love riding. The weather here is very un-California like in that it is very cold - like 38 degrees and on top of it raining. So I am not riding much now. I can live with the cold (nope don't have the heated cover) but cold with rain can't do. My husband is going to ride my bike while I am recovering. He doesn't really like to but I think if he keeps it to around the house - no busy streets he will do fine.

Oh so I am going to tell one of my MP3 secrets - I didn't take the MSF course. Whoa! I just felt too uncomfortable. I wanted to be able to have more confidence before I went to the class. Now I feel really good about it and will sign up for the spring. I think everyone is wired different and believe I will get more out of the class now. I don't recommend that for everyone but for me I think it is the right way to go. I see so many MP3's on craigslist with under 500 miles. They obviously purchased them and had no idea what they were getting into and now don't want them. I would have been in that category as well. Never riden anything motorized and was completely intimidated at first. Not a good start. But I really wanted to do this and within a day was going pretty good. Not an expert rider but knew I had made the right decision and was well on my way to learning. Now I have nearly 2500 miles on it and learning more everytime I ride.

I also finally get all those guys - yep going to be a bit sexist - who worship their cars. They just want to take care of what they love. I feel the same way. It is so weird to be able to put myself in the same category. I had always let my husband take care of the vehicles. But this is so much different. My bike is more than just something that gets me from point A to point B. So I want to make sure that it has everything it needs.

Ok well this is probably more that just new members but I had wanted to put something in for discussion.

Dale

I did't take the MSF course either but then again I have been riding since I was 10. I think you are right about it though...it is valuable but you have to feel ready first. Nothing wrong with that.

I have been unable to ride to work until yesterday so I know what you mean. I felt free again! lol. Heal up fast!

Oh yeah and picking up on your other point. I agree that some people like to hide behind anonymity so they can flame sometimes. I know this frustrates Jess as he once shut down the site because of out of control people. But for the most part people there seem pretty genuine, however, and it is a great forum. I posted a link to it here under Events.

Hi, glad you let this oldie in. I ride the 400 and I live on the other side of the pond than most of you seem to.

I was interested in the comment, 'They obviously purchased them and had no idea what they were getting into and now don't want them' on Dales message. From the inevitable queries from people when I park up in various places, I think people think they are much easier to ride than a two wheeler, they always seem to look confused when I try to explain how the front wheels work independently (may be they are just confused by my attempt to explain :-) )

In the UK we have an organisation called the NABD - the national assoc of biker's with a disability - and I have had to explain the way the MP3's work to many members who are interested in the bikes with the idea they are stable like trikes when being ridden.

Maintenance

Thought it may be interesting to start a log of what maintenance I have done and will do for my 250. So far it has been relatively normal I guess.

600 miles had the required service done with a cost of just over 200 dollars

3,000 miles I checked the oil and brakes and other stuff the 3000 mile check requires. No cost.

3,500 miles I replaced the stock Pilot Sport rear with a Heidenau K58. Did the wheel removal myself so the cost to have the new tire put on the rim and balanced was $23.00 and t… Continue

Back in April...

...gas prices were rising and I started to think that maybe I should start looking for a motorcycle to relieve the 17mpg money siphon my truck was becoming. My wife was not real fond of the idea of a motorcycle so I started looking at alternatives. Diesels, 3 wheelers, and even electric cars were some of my Google searches but none of the results were very interesting.

While immersed in Google world, through some undoubtedly complex word combination search, I happened on a picture of a strange… Continue
